Add-on set autonomous driving for the Robotics TXT 4.0 Base Set

Build and program the car of the future yourself, an absolute highlight in the classroom! Together with the Robotics Base Set, the Robotics Add On: Autonomous Driving offers the opportunity to discover many exciting technologies that almost everyone knows from everyday life today. From automatic lights to a lane departure warning system, cruise control to automatic parking - the model guarantees enthusiastic eyes in the classroom. In addition to a differential, the construction kit contains further wheels, LEDs and a servo motor for the steering. The Robotics Add On: Autonomous Driving is rounded off by the teaching material, which contains seven experiments with corresponding solutions.

  • Task 1: Speedometer, hodometer and taximeter

    Topic: Vehicle design, evaluation of the encoder to determine speed, fare calculation and concurrent processes (threads).

    Learning objectives:

    • Vehicle design: Ackermann steering, differential drive
    • Conversion of encoder pulses into distances (gear ratio, wheel circumference), fare calculation
    • Conversion of encoder pulses into speeds
    • Concurrent processes (threads)

  • Task 2: Brake assist, cruise control and lane departure warning system

    Topic: Driver assistance systems (brake assist, lane departure warning and cruise control), sensor technology (evaluation of encoder pulses, ultrasonic values and camera images for speed control, detection of obstacles and lanes) and controllers (P and PD controllers).

    Learning objectives:

    • Distance measurement with ultrasonic sensor
    • Analog proportional control with speed measurement (cruise control) and using a camera with image evaluation (lane departure warning)
    • PD controller (lane departure warning system)

  • Task 3: Automatic lighting

    Topic: Automatically controlled vehicle lighting with time-dependent, concurrent (parallel) processes (indicators, hazard warning lights) and delay circuits (brake lights).

    Learning objectives:

    • Use of threads for programming concurrent (quasi-parallel) processes
    • Communication between threads via semaphores
    • Time dependency of processes (time cycle, delays)

  • Task 4: Parking aid

    Topic: Programming a driver assistance system (parking aid).

    Learning objectives:

    • Measuring an object from the movement, taking into account the scattering of the ultrasonic sensor
    • "Divide and conquer": Procedure for reducing complexity by breaking down a problem into independent sub-problems
    • Trigonometric calculation of a motion sequence
